May is Mental Health Awareness Month

and the perfect opportunity to spotlight some of our staff’s personal mental health practices. From walking to gardening, we do it all. Uplifting these routines gives us the opportunity to reflect as a team on what is working for us and what isn’t.

Read below and learn about a few of our favorite mental health practices.

"What do I do to take care of my mental health? I do many things, but one thing is to make sure that I am always learning and growing in some way. Here, I am learning and practicing energy healing. My goal is using these practices to help the dying in their final transition."

 — Amy Lane, Administrative Coordinator, the Literate Yogi

"Although the past year has been an incredibly difficult one, it has allowed me to reconnect with nature in a way that I haven't in a long time. Every day, no matter the weather, I make sure that I get outside for a walk; it helps me breathe easier and clear my mind."
— Shannon Perkins, Director of Education & Training

"Two things come to mind when I think of my mental health practice. One, that I love to cook and make delicious food. I especially love seafood dishes. During the pandemic, I made many specialty dishes with crabs, ordering them online to be sent to my home. And two, I love to walk along the beach. Walks on the beach has such a calming effect. Just breathing the fresh sea air changes my breathing and uplifts my mood."
— Colette Anderson, Executive Director

"I love to get out doors and socialize. My mental health practice includes long walks on the beach and trips to the golf course with my friends."
— Sharon Molloy, Administrative Training Specialist

"As an ends-of-the-spectrum person, it is no surprise that the calming peace of the water and the physical output of a hard workout help balance me mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Staying in the moment and pushing my body are key components of managing my mental health and shifting my wellbeing closer to center.”
— Kathleen Callahan, Community Programing and Development Lead
